Qualified students are admitted directly into the GWC nursing program and are guaranteed placement in clinical settings provided progression standards are met. In order to continue in the nursing program, students must complete key science and nursing courses with grades of “C” or better and must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Our distinctive teaching environment at GWC is designed to engage students in active learning that replicates real-world practice settings. Our new, state-of-the-art nursing labs provide student nurses and faculty with cutting-edge learning and teaching environments. The simulation laboratory is a high-tech resource that allows students to experience a vast array of health care challenges. Here high-fidelity medical simulation manikins of all ages called “Sims” function as live patients, responding in real time to the care administered by student nurses. We even have a pregnant female adult that can simulate the birthing process. Nurses must think and act quickly. Our distinctive teaching environment at GWC is designed to engage students in active learning that replicates real-world practice settings The nursing skills laboratory, developed to resemble a hospital care setting, includes low-fidelity simulation manikins. Here nursing students master basic skills, from starting at IV to administering medication to monitoring vital signs. Future additions to the labs include recording equipment, which will allow students and their instructors to review and debrief immediately upon completion of exercises.
